Valley Voices for September

Valley Voices journeys to historic Clayburn, B.C.'s first company town built in 1905. Bricks baked from clay that was mined at nearby Sumas Mountain were shipped around the world. The Clayburn Village Community Society is keeping the story alive at its museum, housed in the basement of the old school house. Also, an excerpt from Langley Heritage Society's "Wheels of Time" -- a short play presented by Creative Compass Society at the 1915 CNR Station in Fort Langley. Listen HERE.

“Wheels of Time” Roll Until Thanksgiving Weekend

When trains rumble past the CN station in the middle of a production, our crew is ready. "Wheels of Time” has kicked off on the platform of the CNR Station in Fort Langley. The whimsical production journeys through time to highlight Langley people and events from 1910 to 1969, with special attention to the role of the CNR Station in Langley's history.   British war bride Lois Bowling, Dr Benjamin Marr and carpenter Billy Brown are among the local local historical figures who make appearances. Written by LHS board member Mark Forsythe, the play was brought to life by the Creative Compass Society under the guidance of Brigitte Seib. The society was created in honour of her late son, Myles, a musician who loved the arts. It’s our 40th Anniversary!

Langley Heritage Society Celebrates 40 Years Preserving Langley’s History September 19th will mark 40 years since a handful of people gathered to create the Langley Heritage Society. They were dedicated to the idea of preserving local historic buildings, natural landscapes and historic roads, at a time when urbanization was ramping up in the Fraser Valley. Society volunteers have spearheaded and assisted with dozens of restoration projects. From the classic 1915 CNR Station in Fort Langley, to Sperling Church, historic Michaud Housein Langley City, Karr/Mercerbarn at Derby, to the Lochiel Schoolin Campbell Valley Regional Park. Many of these structures had been neglected, vandalized or faced demolition,  but each has new life.  Key partnerships with the Township of Langley, Langley City, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Canadian National Railways and community groups underscore the society’s success.
