“To forget one’s ancestors is to be a brook without a source, a tree without a root.” – Chinese Proverb

A frequent request to the Langley Heritage Society is for information about family history in the Langley region. Inquiries come from across Canada, and beyond, and we do our best to direct people to relevant information in our area. An excellent resource in our province is the British Columbia Genealogical Society which is celebrating its 50th anniversary. The Langley Heritage Society has recently become an affiliate member, and our LHS members can access various online Coffee Chat groups and seminars.

Coffee Chat groups meet via Zoom and provide an opportunity to connect with other people researching similar parts of the world.  The next available seminar is with Lucille Campey who has a doctorate in emigration history and has authored 8 books on Scottish, English and Irish emigrants to Canada. On June 5th she’ll delve into Canada’s Irish Pioneers and British Customs Records and other government sources. Other seminars in June include Genealogy for Beginners, Historical Photos Analysis and United Empire Loyalists.

There is a remarkable range of offerings from the British Columbia Genealogy Society and you’ll learn more by visiting their website HERE.  Or go to: www.bcgs.ca to register for an event . For the password code, email us at: [email protected]
