Spirit of Skeena

“Spirit of the Skeena” has been moved from one side of the airport to other. The DC-3 that was built in 1935 belongs to the Canadian Museum of Flight and is now beside the Magnificent Seven mural at Langley Airport. For the public it makes for a close-up view of this vintage aircraft that did service in B.C. From the museum's website: “This Douglas DC-3 in fact, was the first DC-3 to be owned and operated by a "home grown" B.C. airline, -- Queen Charlotte Airlines. She became Pacific Western Airlines first DC-3 and as such was assigned the fleet number of 301. Today, CF-PWH is the oldest surviving DC-3 in Canada.” The museum will eventually move to Pitt Meadows Airport, a project that could take up to 5 years. More about the Canadian Museum of Flight HERE

Join us at a public open house at salishan Place by the River and also celebrate the opening of the new Fort Langley Library.  Learn about the plans for salishan including programs, services, and the phased opening of the museum and its exhibits in the coming months. BC Family Day at the CNR Station

Family Day Open House Kicks Off BC Heritage Week at the CNR Station on February 17th! Come discover the real-life stories of a once working railway station.  Inside Fort Langley's original Canadian Northern Railway station you'll explore the exhibits in the waiting room, telegraph office, and freight room. Climb aboard a 1947 passenger car where children will enjoy the large wooden train table and book reading area along with the thrill of the model HO railway operating in the adjoining 1920s CNR caboose. During the open house there will be a new scavenger hunt and a craft for children to seal a letter from the train agent with a wax stamp.

Almost Ready

  salishan Place by the River, a $28 million project started 5 years ago, is getting closer to opening. Construction deficiencies delayed the original plans, but Township of Langley now has keys in hand. In the first week of January museum docents and other volunteers toured the 36,000 square foot facility that sprawls across three floors in Fort Langley. The first occupant will be the Fraser Valley Regional Library branch which hopes to open sometime in February. The museum staff will soon begin moving the collection into the new facility, and work will commence on exhibit themes and design, integrating settler and Indigenous history. The main floor features the FVR library, a large permanent exhibition space and a classroom for schools programming (sponsored by the Langley Heritage Society).
