2019 Douglas Day Dinner

There was a full house Friday at the Fort Langley Community Hall for the annual Douglas Day Dinner, held in honour of the Father of British Columbia who declared the colony of British Columbia at Fort Langley in November 1858. Thanks to Glenn Disney for sharing these photos. Guest speaker (and LHS member) Jim Foulkes talked about researching the Henry Houston Scott family, former U.S. slaves who made a home in Cloverdale. A park has been named in their honour at their old homestead on 64th Avenue.

Douglas Day Dinner: November 15th

Join us for the Douglas Day Dinner on November 15th. Jim Foulkes and members of the Surrey Historical Society were instrumental in creating a park to honour a former slave family. Henry Houston Scott and his wife Amy came to Canada for a new life in 1912 with their three youngest children. They farmed and became full members of the Cloverdale community. Jim's talk will be part of the Douglas Day Dinner celebrations at the Fort Langley Community Hall. Tickets available from Dave at 604-888-7596 or email [email protected]
