Gathering of the LHS Clan

More than 70 members gathered for the AGM Dinner at the Fort Langley Community Hall on Friday. It's always a wonderful opportunity to catch up on society news, renew friendships and learn something new. This year's presentation was all about the new cultural facility, salishan Place by the River. We heard about the exhibit planning and programming from Ryan Schmidt, Manager of Arts & Culture for the Township, and Heritage Curator, Kobi Christian. Thanks to LHS member Glenn Disney for capturing the event through his camera lens. Ryan Schmidt rolls out a plan for the year ahead at salishan Place by the River. Public tours of the facility have now begun on Fridays at 1 pm. Kobi Christian is Heritage Curator at Salishan Place by the River and a member of our society. The school programs that LHS sponsors are expected to begin in the fall and [...]

Volunteer Spotlight

Meet volunteer Aedan Smyth, a grade 12 student at Brookswood Secondary School. Asked about his favourite artifact in the CNR freight room, he grabbed the stumping powder box. This was vital to railways and farmers to hasten the removal of trees and stumps. Adan has a keen interest in railway history and his plans include pursuing a history degree at Simon Fraser University. We wish him well and thank him for volunteering at the Fort Langley heritage CNR Station. We're always eager to welcome new volunteers. Find out more HERE.

AGM Dinner: April 21st

Attention LHS members! Our AGM Dinner is scheduled for April 21st, featuring guest speaker Stephen Mikicich, the Heritage Planner with the Township of Langley. (Doors open at 5 pm, dinner at 6 pm.) He'll provide an overview of the Township's municipal heritage conservation program, current projects, and planned initiatives. Join us for a delicious dinner with friends, and hear some inspiring ideas about heritage conservation. Tickets from Dave at 778-899-2209 or email [email protected]. Stephen Mikicich joined the Township of Langley as Manager of Heritage Planning in September 2021.  Returning to Langley is somewhat of a ‘homecoming’ for Stephen, as he undertook considerable work in the Township as a planning consultant during the 1990s and early 2000s, and has a strong appreciation for the community. He is Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with a Master of Arts degree in Community and Regional Planning, and a career spanning over 30 years in the [...]
