Stephen Mikicich joined the Township of Langley as Manager of Heritage Planning in September 2021. Returning to Langley is somewhat of a ‘homecoming’ for Stephen, as he undertook considerable work in the Township as a planning consultant during the 1990s and early 2000s, and has a strong appreciation for the community.
He is Registered Professional Planner (RPP) with a Master of Arts degree in Community and Regional Planning, and a career spanning over 30 years in the private and public sectors. His broad and diverse experience includes all facets of community and development planning, urban design, economic development, heritage conservation, and community engagement.
Stephen has led many ‘first of their kind’ initiatives in community planning, and his work has been recognized with several awards of excellence – including one for West Vancouver’s Heritage Strategy, which was recognized as the first ‘values’-based municipal plan for heritage conservation in British Columbia.
He has previously served a director on the boards of the Vancouver Heritage Foundation, and Heritage Vancouver Society. He is also a lay historian on the city of Vancouver, and a lifelong resident of Kitsilano.
